This book will take you away to the world of the horsemen and women. Their lives on the track and at home are explored. Emmy and her “father” Baatar find each other at a time when both are searching. Emmy is young and Baatar serves as her father figure. Emmy’s strength and genuine empathy at a young age draws one in. You instantly want to know more about Baatar once his life character is revealed. I appreciated the love of family that this book exudes and how family can also be found with those you meet later in life. I look forward to more stories from Mollie Moon. Thank you for the comforting read.

I got the book on sale and couldn’t put it down so I read the whole book over the weekend! It’s such a beautiful story, especially as I’m an immigrant myself like Emmy, living in coastal city, so a lot of the scenes/feelings resonated with me. It’s interesting to know tidbits about horses and Mongolian cultures as well.

This lovely book felt like a beautifully woven warm blanket on a cool evening. In a world where we far to often lean toward cynicism and distrust, you are taken away into two lives that collide into each other (quite literally) and are given a second chance to build a life through self-forgiveness, trust, compassion and gratitude for all the things that matter. The value and strength of family ties and true friends is expressed nicely; and, affirms the belief that humankind has so many great qualities. For those of us with cultures that take much joy in sharing traditional foods as an expression of our love and gratitude, you’ll get the thrill of those foods here. — To Emmy, I wish I had been so grounded and wise at such a young age. To Baatar, I aspire to have faith in others by your example. I hope one day we get to read more about the canvas of life you both create through your dreams.

This book, even though fiction, offers a real factual look at horse behavior and the bonds we make with them and they with us. I truly enjoyed the characters in the story and how real they all seemed. A good read and heartwarming in these troubled times.

Horseshoe Necklace is a welcome respite from the bombardment of negative news on COVID19 pandemic and racial injustice. The inspirational story of two strangers: Baatar, the outrider, and Emmy, the orphan adult, provides a gleam of hope for our future. Their relationship demonstrates the genuine qualities of humankind – kindness, compassion, generosity, honesty, sincerity, trust, respect, responsibility, reliability, persistency, acceptance and affection. If you want to escape all the negativity that surrounds us nowadays, I strongly suggest you find a comfortable corner, make yourself a cup of tea, pick up Horseshoe Necklace and immerse yourself in the story of Baatar and Emmy to celebrate the goodness of humanity.

Like other reviewers have mentioned, this book has been a comfort to read during these times of uncertainty. Emmy’s story is a story of hope and it reminds us of the innate goodness and compassion that exists in our fellow man. As a native San Diegan I appreciated the author’s knowledge of our city. And as a horse owner and equine learning specialist, I was impressed with her intimate knowledge of horses both as sensitive animals and in the horse racing setting. I look forward to reading more books by Mollie.

If I had to pick one word to describe this story, that word would be Trust. In The Horseshoe Necklace we meet Emmy and Bataar who find themselves in a situation that requires them to trust each other. Thankfully, the trust between Bataar and Emmy unfolds into a very hopeful and uplifting story. I love to read books that introduce me to new things and pique my interest to look further into those things. So, having read The Horseshoe Necklace and met its characters and their horses, I am inspired to learn more and read about California racetracks and their horses, and the nomadic horsemen of Mongolia. This story knits together those two worlds-apart worlds. Next time I go to the races (which is not very often) not only will I be watching the horses running the races, but also the ones that aren’t, and their humans. I doubt I will ever make it to Mongolia, but if I am lucky enough to do that one day, I would like to see some of those nomadic horsemen on their horses too. Whether on the racetrack or on the steppes of Mongolia, I hope to see what I learned from this story–Trust.

The Horseshoe Necklace was just the kind of story I needed to take my mind off of the high anxiety pandemic/political climate of the day that I can’t otherwise seem to escape. But not so far off as to forget what’s truly important: people humbly working together and uplifting each other without regard for payback and figuring out what’s important through honest reflection and conversation while never losing a spirit of gratitude. It is a timely book, relevant to today by virtue of highlighting a young, determined girl’s immigrant struggle. Set in Southern California and revolving around the life of an outrider and a determined and focused teenage girl, it is packed with information for horse lovers and those intrigued by what happens behind the scenes at a race track. It is an uncomplicated, refreshing, hopeful, educational read with a positive message for all ages.
