Maria Elena loved the sun. It was simply there every day. Upon awakening, it would curiously look into the house through the window to see how everybody was doing, except during the rainy season. On rare days when she slept in, the sun’s warm rays would tickle her face until she got up, and when she opened the door, there it was, shining upon the earth in its full glory, never holding back, making everybody smile. And, as Maria Elena had learned in school, the sun never truly set even though we, as humans, believe it disappears every night to make room for the moon. But that was a human illusion due to the earth’s rotation. And even when it rained, the sun was still there behind the clouds, high in the sky.
